ABOUT US(LYRICAL RIDER)
The Peculiar International School, Accra Ghana is unique. Not just because it is home to a rich cultural mix of almost hundreds of pupils and students with mix nationalities with ages ranging from 1 to 18 years, nor because it operates with an inclusive approach. The reason is simple, it is more than a school; it is one big family.
The Peculiar International School with Ghanaian soul
From the beginning we have been dedicated to educating students for life, challenging them to fulfill their individual potential in a stimulating learning environment which fosters high moral and ethical standards, developing a sense of awareness for the world around them. Today nothing has changed and our students’ academic and personal achievements bear testimony to this.
How it all began
The school was first started in July 2001 by Mr. Emmanuel Osei-Asemani and Mrs. Naomi Osei-Asamani with two(2) children in Kasoa which is the end of Greater Accra and the beginning of the Central Region so close to the capital. Through hard work and commitment to the school, the school was able to grow both in enrollment and infrastructure. To us child education is a passion and a talent that need to be pursued with all our might and strength counting on God as our helper. We have the school’ board, the parents Teachers and other staff, our cherished pupils and students who form The Peculiar School Society.
Maintaining the highest international standards
Because we don’t keep large classes, we always know each student’s level of attainment, rate of progress and well-being. We take an inclusive approach to development as a result, our admissions policy requires parents to declare if their child or children have any special learning needs. Apart from normal admission tests, the school also requires standardized assessments (psycho-educational reports) from Year 1 throughout the Primary School, and in Year 9 in the Secondary School to assess the needs of the child and to see if our programs will benefit she/he . This enables us to track students’ progress more effectively, to identify learning needs more quickly as well as gifts, talents and language needs more precisely.
Peculiar International School runs a Montessori Pre-school and also follows it up with the Ghanaian curricula for the Primary and the Junior High School which ends in the 9th Grade. Student from the 9th grade can join the IGCSE/O’LEVEL Program which will qualify them to enter to do the A’LEVEL. From there the student enters into universities of their choice worldwide.
We also give the children opportunity to enter Cambridge Secondary one right from the 6th grade (class six). From here too, the child can continue to the IGCSE and then to the A’LEVEL examination.
